Catalyst

Catalyst

CATALYST |kăt′l-ĭst| Noun

  • A substance, usually used in small amounts relative to the reactants, that modifies and increases the rate of a reaction without being consumed in the process.

  • One that precipitates a process or event, especially without being involved in or changed by the consequences. Someone or something that encourages progress or change.

(Quoted from The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language, 5th Edition.)

We are surrounded by catalysts…

At home, perhaps the parent(s), grandparent(s) and people who play a nurturing role… including the nanny or baby-sitter.

At school perhaps the teachers or administrative staff who leave a persistent impression.

Sometimes, even friends and acquaintances… and over a period of time, anybody else we come in contact with, who has a similar impact on us.

At the workplace, certain job-titles have a built-in expectation to play a role that is “Catalytic” in the effects it creates. Without depleting itself in the process. That aspect is vital. Consistency and sustainability are inherent to the nature of being a Catalyst.

In one of our earlier articles, we called them “Trim Tabs”. They do the little things, consistently, irrespective of the situation and make an impact effortlessly. They exert an influence that is beyond the roles they play or were required to do…

Remember those teachers, friends, managers, coaches etc. who changed you for the better? This is about them. It could be about you!

What makes one a Catalyst? We explore that next.

Our flagship Learning Experience, the Culture Catalyst Program© (CCP), based on two decades of Organizational Behaviour can help you and your Organization transform and deliver long lasting results. There is no quick fix. There is however a method, a process that increases the probability of lasting success.

While the program is strongly recommended for C-suites and Upper Management folks, it is equally relevant for current, emerging, future leaders and high potential employees. The details are on our website - Contact us today.
